The PiYo Workout Calendar: Basic vs Strength Schedule

Beachbody and Chalene Johnson’s PiYo workout schedule comes complete with a wall calendar. If I had a room dedicated to just working out, this would be perfect to hang on the wall. However…not quite there yet. :(

If your workout calendar came in the mail or you have access to Beachbody On Demand the first thing you’ll probably notice is a pink side and blue side.

The pink PiYo calendar is the schedule for the basic version of the program. This is the side that you will want to follow if you are not going to be using the PiYo Strength slides(more advanced).

There are Two Workout Schedules to Choose From

PiYo Base and PiYo Strength

  1. PiYo Base – This is the workout schedule for the basic PiYo at-home workout program. You will be using these workouts:
    • Align: The Fundamentals(40 min.)
    • Define: Lower Body (20 min.)
    • Define: Upper Body (20 min.)
    • Sweat (35 min.)
    • Core (30 min.)
    • Strength Intervals (25 min.)
    • Drench (45 min.)
    • Sculpt (30 min.)
    • Buns (25 min.)
  2. PiYo Strength – This workout calendar includes the above workouts, plus two accelerated workouts: Full Body Blast and Strong Legs, which you will need the strength slides for.

The PiYo Base Workout Calendar

The PiYo Basic workout calendar starts on a Monday, but you can choose any day of the week to begin, just be sure to follow the workout schedule in order with the fifth day being an off day.

Week 1:

First Day: The program starts with Align: The Fundamentals(you do this workout once) Then a lower body workout on Tuesday, followed by an upper body workout on Wednesday, then Sweat a cardio paced workout on Thursday. day 5(Friday, woohoo!) is a rest day, then you go back to the lower and upper workouts to finish off the week.

Week 4 note: Week 4 is when the PiYo workout schedule really picks up. If you found the first week to easy, you can move here. If you find this week to hard, it might be worth repeating weeks 1 through 3.

This cycle basically repeats itself with a Core workout thrown in here and there until week 4 of the program. Drench, Sculpt and Buns are introduced this week.

The PiYO basic calendar has a great design, You are alternating between different areas of the body on alternating days with cardio and core workouts mixed between. This allows you to better recover before working the same area again.

The PiYo Strength Workout Calendar

The blue side! If you want to step up your PiYo workouts then we have the PiYo Strength schedule.

    1. The basic piyo workouts don’t use the strength slides during the workouts. I suppose you could modify some of the moves if you wanted to.

  1. Hi I have started the Piyo Basic dvds. I am wondering after I finish the 8 weeks calender (pink side) and I want to start the Piyo strength, would I have to purchase a whole new set of dvds for the strength (blue side)?

    1. Hi Araceli. The strength workouts are on different DVDs so yes you would need to get them. The good news is Team Beachbody offers the PiYo Deluxe Upgrade Kit that comes with the workouts, strength slides and a workout mat for the same cost as if you purchased it as a complete kit to begin. The workouts are also all available to stream with a Beachbody On Demand membership. Bethany

  2. About to start the strength schedule. Was wondering if there is another set of dvd’s to get after I finish with this schedule or should I do a hybrid schedule?

  3. I am 60 and a former aerobics instructor. Aging has slowed me down and I can’t do high impact. And I also had a broken ankle May 2014. Would this be a safe and productive workout for me?

    1. Hi Nadia, The main perks are, you can track workout schedules online, you get access to the member forums, and you can also track your progress over time. Bethany

  4. Hi
Your post is really helpful and the results are amazing im looking to loose inches around my hips and hope this program helps as fast as it helped you.
I wanted to know whether the results of doing PIYO + butt lift will also be like this? Any thoughts??
    Thanks
    Divya

    1. Hi Divya, I would choose one or the other. Doing both would be overkill. I’ve done both loved both results, BBL did tone my backside more, while felt llike PiYo gave me more core stregth and sleeker abs. Bethany

  5. hi I am wondering if I could swap out one of the piyo for the deluxe ones? I am doing a piyo and brazil butt lift hybrid now and was wondering if I could and if so what ones ?? thanks

  6. Hello Bethany,
You look great! Your Piyo result is so inspiring!!
Thank you for all the useful info. you have in this blog.
I start the Piyo strength calender and feel that it’s very short, even though it is one of many resons why I picked Piyo, but do I have to do double round (for example lower legs sched for only 20 mins) to have the same results you do?
    Thank you,
    Nina

    1. Hi Nina, Yes, the first 2-3 weeks in the PiYo schedule the workouts are shorter. My percpective on this is they are getting your body ready for the more intense workouts to come. I followed the schedule exactly as it is laid out. Chalene does say that you can do the PiYo Upper and PiYo Lower workouts in the same day if you want to. Bethany

  7. Hi Bethany,
I am getting ready to start the PiYo 60 day program and am really excited. What do you do for maintenance after you finish the 60 days?
    Thanks!

    1. Hi Virginia. If you were 100% satisfied with your results you could do PiYo every other day to maintain. It really depends, you’ll get a better feel of what you should do when you are finished. Bethany

  8. Hi – I wanted to see if I could double up on the Piyo exercises and reduce the number of days to complete the program? Is there a calendar for that?

    1. Hi An, No, you would not want to double up the workouts. The program is designed to produce maximum results as is, the body can only do so much exercisng before it can’t handle it and will break down. Bethany

  9. Hello, I live/work in Argentina and am not able to get a DVD sent to me. Do you have downloads from the internet that I can use after purchasing the workout?

  10. Please, could you send me on pdf the quick start guide if is not very long. I would like to see if ican do these workout exercises. Thanks a lot in advance.

    1. HI Hani, I do not have them in pdf, just in print. I do not think they would help you decide anyways. Have you read my review? That should help you decide and feel free to comment there if you still have specific questions. -Bethany

  11. Hi,
Thank you for posting Piyo Calendar in pdf and excel format! I’m still reading reviews and comments for Piyo, but I’m so interested. Haven’t tried any of the Beachbody pproducts yet.
    Thanks,
    CJ

  12. Hi Bethany,
Thanks for answering so many questions. I have learnt so much by reading the questions and reading your review more than the fix 21 days page. Anyways I was just wondering if you know whether someone can buy the containers without the DVD’s. I have T25 work out dvd’s and I cannot afford at this time to buy the entire package.
    Thanks again.
    Mary

    1. Hi Mary – I’m not sure you can buy the 21 Day Fix containers without the program. If you wanted to look into it, I would suggest contacting Beachbody customer service directly and seeing if they could help you. Otherwise, I think one of my comments on the 21 Day Fix review article has the sizing of the separate containers broken down into cups/ounces. I hope this helps :)

      1. They have a set at Safeway grocery. They are not labeled as 21 day fix , however , they look like them and are a set.

      2. Hi, Thanks I’ve seen similar container systems in a few stores. Beachbody sells them separately now also. Bethany
