My Alo Moves Review. Surprise! It’s Not Just Online Yoga Classes

If you’re a regular visitor to my blog, you probably didn’t know I had an Alo Moves membership for quite a while now.

I don’t use it consistently, but I do like that it’s a refreshing change from my usual online workout programs. And it’s been great for me to do with my knee injury.

Alo Moves has a huge variety of classes ranging from very beginner to very challenging, as well as dozens of professionally recognized instructor. I’ve been enjoying their huge variety of classes lately, which is why I had to share a full Alo Moves review with you.

What is Alo Moves?

Alo Moves is an at-home online workout streaming platform with thousands of classes ranging from yoga and meditation to strength and cardiovascular fitness.

That’s one of my favorite things about it. It isn’t just about yoga classes or classes to help you lose weight or get fit. There are also mindfulness, restorative yoga, and rehabilitative classes – as well as other types I’ll share below. Things we could all use a little bit more of these days.

Why I Chose to Try Alo Moves

I tried the rehabilitative classes and mobility workouts on Alo Moves first, because I was hoping for some relief from my shoulder, wrists and back that were starting to hurt on a regular basis.

My usual go-to Beachbody On Demand just isn’t that type of platform.

I also needed postnatal classes. After my second pregnancy, my body felt imbalanced and my diastasis recti was severe.

Alo Moves has a few postnatal fitness workouts like postnatal Pilates, postnatal core & breathwork, and postnatal barre. They also have breathwork specific postnatal, which is perfect for right after having a baby.

They do have a few prenatal classes. I just didn’t get beyond a couple classes, because they were too hard for me. I liked the beginner one they have/had on DailyBurn with Briohny Smyth better, who is now one of the most popular instructors on Alo Moves.

Alo Moves is always growing their content list. Since starting my membership, Alo Moves has created and released a ton of new content. Now they have dedicated strength programs instead of the majority being meditation, yoga, Pilates, or yoga/Pilates and weight hybrid programs I was used to seeing.

I’m really excited about this addition, because I prefer more traditional fitness workouts or at least including some strength training in my routine. I am definitely a beginner when it comes to yoga.

The strength workouts on Alo Moves are not their strong point at this time. They don’t quite yet compare to the strength workouts you’d get with workouts you’d find on Beachbody On Demand or Peloton. But I feel like that’s to be expected, since it’s a newer addition and has plenty of room to grow.

If you’re looking for how Alo compares to Glo or other yoga-based sites, I’ll be going over those soon. Make sure to subscribe to my email list for updates and new posts.

What Workouts Alo Moves Offers

Alo Moves offers an impressive variety of workouts that are broken down into standalone Classes and Series.

Standalone classes are self-explanatory. They’re classes you can choose from depending on what you feel like doing for the day.

Series are programs you can follow for a set period of time like a normal at-home workout program or a quick 5-Day Reset.

There are several different ways Alo Moves does this:

  • Some series are more like a traditional workout program. You have the same instructor and do the same workout style over a 21 or 30-day period.
  • Some series have 2 different programs and some have 2 different instructors working together for a more comprehensive program.
  • Other series like Alo in the Wild has a variety of workout styles to give you a truly unique well-rounded program with a variety of styles like Vinyasa, Iyengar, Pilates, jump rope, HIIT, core, EMOM, AMRAP if you like variety in your daily workouts like me.
    • In this kind of series, expect only one class of each type of workout.
    • These workouts range from 5-30 minutes, so not every day is a hard-core fat-burning workout.
  • Other series they have are meditation, 21-day ab focused, Barre, general fitness programs with or without dumbbells, and more.

Alo Moves 30-day challenges

The Challenge is probably one of Alo Moves most popular series. Led by international yoga instructor, Josh Kramer, this 28-day series is designed to improve your strength, agility, cardiovascular fitness, flexibility and endurance.

This is one of my favorite series on Alo Moves. It’s challenging enough to make you know you’re working hard, but pretty easy on your joints depending on what level you follow. I’ve seen major differences in my strength and flexibility in just 3 weeks!

Alo Moves Find What Moves You Challenges

They also have four other month-long challenge series on findwhatmovesyou.alomoves.com. Here you can choose from five different track challenges depending on your goals.

Each track is a collection of classes from different instructors for a truly unique program and a healthy delicious recipe to inspire you as well as questions to help you reflect.

Right now, here are the choices:

  • Get Fit
  • Go With the Flow
  • Float & Fly
  • Connect to Calm
  • Find What Moves You

Do Alo Moves Workouts Have Music?

Most of the workouts on Alo Moves do have music. If they don’t have accompanying music or you don’t like the music, you can always add your favorite music to your own playlist.

On the flip side, you also have the option to mute the music if you prefer not to have any.

Variety of Classes in Alo Moves

For a wellness streaming platform, Alo Moves has a very large variety of classes. They also have a class finder and various ways to search for a class, series or bundle that’s right for you.

How to Find the Right Class for You

Doing their favorite morning yoga.

It’s extremely easy to find a class that fits your fitness level and the vibe you’re currently feeling that day with their filters.

Alo Moves even has several kids’ yoga classes. My son’s favorite right now is the Dino Yoga.

Here’s how the class finder search is broken down:

Duration: Length of classes: 0-90+ minutes

Instructors: Alo Moves has an extensive list of professional instructors, some who are extremely popular internationally.

Don’t see your favorite instructor on the list yet? Alo Moves keeps adding new instructors all the time.

I saved this Alo Moves Instructors List twice, because they added so many new instructors between when I first took the photo to when this post was finally published.

Styles: When you search by style, you have 5 options: Fitness, Mindfulness, Skills, Yoga, and Set Your Intention. These all have various subcategories to choose from, which you can see below.

The current workout styles available on Alo Moves.

****New things are constantly showing up on Alo Moves what almost seems like daily, so I’m guessing this list will continue to expand.

Difficulty: Beginner, Moderate, Intermediate, Advanced

Intensity: From Level 1 to Level 4, you have the option to do a slow-paced, restorative or breath-focused workout intensity to Level 4 that increases your heart rate and your breathing.

Most of the classes on Alo Moves do not require any equipment outside of a yoga mat.

Is Alo Moves worth it?

Whether or not Alo Moves is worth it has a lot to do with your goals, your budget, and what type of workouts you like. If $199/year or $20/month works for you, then yes, it’s definitely worth it.

Alo Moves is constantly introducing new classes, instructors and series, which makes their library of workouts almost endless. Plus, with the impressive list of instructors, you won’t get bored.

Who is Alo Moves not for?

  • If you really struggle with your nutrition like figuring out how much and what foods to eat, creating meal plans, etc. and want to lose weight
  • If you like a set workout schedule
  • If you want to track your progress
  • If you want to follow a workout program that is longer than 30 days
  • If you prefer community and/or individual support to reach your goals

While you can plan a class with someone in the Alo Moves community, it’s not quite the level of support you get with other streaming platforms, which could be added at any point.

Can You Lose Weight with Alo Moves?

Of course you can!

As long as you consume less calories than you’re burning, you will lose weight following any workout program.

Alo Moves is flexible enough to give you the freedom to choose your classes day to day and also allows you to follow one of their more structured series designed to help you lose weight, but the end result is up to you. Remember abs are made in the kitchen.

If you’re more into structured workouts for a longer period of time, you can either do a couple of the series back-to-back, or you could opt for another workout streaming platform. It’s up to you.

Alo Moves vs Beachbody On Demand

This is a question I get asked often. But the truth is that they’re so different, it almost doesn’t make sense to compare them.

The decision is really about you, your overall goals, your budget, and what type of training you enjoy and can stick with. For me, I love having access to both, because I use each site for different reasons.

Here are some key differences:

Alo Moves Promotions to Help You Get Moving

Like most other at-home workout streaming platforms, Alo Moves doesn’t offer frequent membership discounts. They do offer some sales at what seems like certain times of the year and do have promos to let you try it for free for longer.

At the end of the calendar year into the beginning of the new year, Alo Moves sometimes has a 50% off your first year special.

They also run limited time only promos like trying Alo Moves free for 30 days. And have special challenges they run on IG.

Alo Moves Challenges & Giveaways

Alo Moves occasionally has fun contests like their Dream Retreat Challenge they held in January 2022. If you logged 10 workouts, you were automatically entered for a chance to win $10K. What better incentive to get moving?!

They also hold weekly challenges on Instagram to win prizes from Alo Moves or Alo Yoga. At the end of the month, they choose one winner from all the monthly entries for the grand prize that includes a one-on-one coaching session with an Alo moves instructor.

Entering the weekly challenges is easy. All you need to do is share a photo or video of you on IG practicing an Alo Moves class and make sure to tag @alomoves and @aloyoga and use hashtag #MoveTogether. You can enter once every day.

These are some of the prizes you win in the IG challenges that also includes a one-year membership.

Are you a certified teaching professional? You can get a 25% Alo Yoga Pro discount on their clothing line if you’re willing to share their clothing line with the world in a positive and professional manner.

My Final Thoughts on Alo Moves

Alo Moves has challenging workouts, world-class professional instructors, thousands of classes, and an easy-to-use app. The search bar isn’t always the most accurate, but the filters make finding the perfect class super easy.

If you enjoy working out with an instructor who feels more like a friend or enjoy classes that take you to beautiful, often exotic locations, Alo Moves could be fore you.

Whether you’re a beginner or more advanced, they have options to cover what you need. And if you’re still wondering whether or not to try Alo Moves, there’s always the free trial with the option to pay monthly after that if you can’t afford the full price up front. That way you can also see how committed you are.

Alo Moves is constantly evolving and growing as an online streaming platform and have classes to suit every fitness level that can fit into even the busiest schedules. That’s why I feel like it is such a great option to have available to you whether you’re trying to lose weight or just looking for a change.

Because that’s not something every at-home workout site commits to on a regular basis.
