Beachbody BODi Review: So Much More Than Just Live Streaming Workouts

It feels like it took a little longer than expected for the “leader in home workouts” to make the most of its live-streaming feature. That’s why I’m so excited to update my original BODi review!!!

With BODi, you’re getting a whole lot more than just live classes from BODi celebrity trainers and other world-class trainers. You’re also gaining access to BODi blocks, 5-minute add-ons, and so much more.

BODi (pronounced body) or Beachbody On Demand Interactive are interactive live-streaming and on-demand workouts from Beachbody.

Features include:

  • BODi blocks, which we’ll go over below
  • Live workouts with BODi (formerly known as Beachbody) super trainers and other world-class trainers
  • A feature called BODcast
  • Cycling workouts and more that you can read about below.
  • 5-Minute add-on workouts to add to any

Who is BODi good for?

BODi is for:

  • Anyone looking for a comprehensive workout program, nutrition and community to help you reach your health and fitness goals
  • Anyone who loves the fun of live workouts and enjoys the atmosphere of working out with others can join the BODcast (see below)
  • Someone who needs something to do in between newly released Beachbody at-home workout programs
  • Someone who just wants to get a live or on demand workout in here and there between their usual workout program

In this review, I’m going to go over everything about BODi. And I’m not going to lie…the new format is so much better than anything else I’ve ever seen in online workout streaming platforms!

What Does BODi Stand For?

BODi stands for Beachbody On Demand Interactive.  With a BODi membership, you will still have access to the complete collection of Beachbody workouts that were available to you on Beachbody On Demand, plus new releases with VIP access purchase. Or you can also wait it out until it becomes part of the library

The “I” at the end of BOD stands for Interactive. This is because you’re not just able to live stream workouts, you’ll also be able to interact with the new platform.

BODcast allows you to stream yourself to the BODi platform. BODcast allows up to 100 people to have a live feed sent to Beachbody that’s displayed on the background screen of BODi during your workouts. Make sure to hop on early for a chance to be feature as space is limited!

Not only will you be able to see yourself on screen with the trainers, you might get real time feedback from them. Plus, other people working out at home will be able to see you and vice versa. How fun is that?! And if that doesn’t sound like any fun, don’t worry about it! Being featured on the BODcast is an option you get to choose.

Who Are the BODi Trainers?

You probably are familiar with most of them, but the BODi trainers are the same favorite trainers who bring you BODi (formerly Beachbody) workout programs, as well as some new specialized BODi trainers who are just as awesome in my opinion.

Short list of BODi trainers:

  • Autumn Calabrese
  • Megan Davies
  • Shaun T
  • Joel Freeman
  • Jericho McMatthews
  • Amolia Cesar
  • Jennifer Jacobs
  • Lacee Green

There are so many more trainers than this available, plus they continue to add more, so it’s hard to complete a full list.

What Type of Live Classes Are Available on BODi?

These are the class categories to choose from whether you’re looking for live classes or previously recorded classes. You can also search each category by Trainer, Music/Genre, Body Part, Workout Type, and Fitness Level. Plus, there’s always a “No Equipment” box to check off if you’re traveling, not in the mood to use any equipment, or if you just don’t have any right now.

What Are 5ers?

5ers are 5-minute add-on workouts you are given the option to do after every workout on BODi. And whether or not the classes or workout you do are long enough, or maybe you feel like you just need a little extra, there’s always the 5-minute add-ons available. They have 5 Min Abs, 5 Min BOOTi, 5 Min Legs, 5 Min Arms, 5 Min Challenges, and 5 Min Stretch to choose from.

What Workout Programs Are on BODi?

BODi programs look exactly like what Beachbody On Demand had when searching for a program or workout. You can choose from:

The filters under Programs include Program Type, Trainer/Expert, and Duration.

You can also search workout programs from the main landing screen by trainer. Here’s a list of BODi trainers you can choose from for your next BODi workout program:

  • Autumn Calabrese
  • Amoila Cesar
  • Megan Davies
  • Chris Downing
  • Joel Freeman
  • Tony Horton
  • Jennifer Jacobs
  • Elise Joan
  • Chalene Johnson
  • Sagi Kalev
  • Jericho McMatthews
  • Ilana Muhlstein
  • Andrea Rogers
  • Idalis Velazquez
  • Shaun T

As you can see, the lists are pretty extensive for workout programs. Whether you’re looking at BODi workout program categories or a specific trainer you love, there’s literally something for everyone.

What Are BODi Blocks?

BODi Blocks are the newest addition to BODi that you’ll definitely want to try out. They were designed to get you results and help you stay consistent in your workout efforts.

There is a BODi Block to suit you whether you’re a beginner or more advanced, feel like sticking to total body or really want to focus on cycling or lifting. And yes, there are modifiers to show you modified versions. Here are the different BODi Blocks you can choose from:

Different Types of BODi Blocks to Choose From:

  • For Beginners Only: For Beginners Only or FBO is a safe place to get started on your health and fitness journey or to get back into things if you haven’t been working out in a while.
  • Iron Block: You’ll need to grab your dumbbells and your bench, because you’re going to lift and build some muscle.
  • All-Body Block: This is a blend of resistance, cardio, core and recovery to help you reach your goals.
  • Bike Block: These blocks will have some days on the bike and some days for resistance for an all-around program that will get you results.
  • Super Block: This is a new spin on your favorite super trainers’ workouts, but renewed for something fresh and unexpected. This is an add-on option.

Think of BODi blocks like different monthly programs to follow. The concept is based on block periodization. Block periodization is the perfect balance of exercise, rest, and training variety. It was designed to prevent program burnout or boredom.

All BODi blocks run for 3 weeks of 5 workouts with the 4th week being the UP week. These UP weeks focus on active recovery to take it back a notch on the intensity or it could also be a good time to try out something else.

New BODi Blocks start the first Monday of every month. But you can replay previous months’ blocks or start at a later date if you start in the middle of the month.

BODi is More Than Just Fitness

BODi is all about Health Esteem. That’s what it means when you’re not just about losing weight or working out. It’s about becoming happy about your whole self while you become who you want to be.

That means there’s a whole lot more than just fitness on BODi, because living a happy, healthy life has to do with more than just how we look. It has to do with our entire mindset.

Now there are Mindset Classes and Resources to help you with living a good life and happiness. There are also the Relaxation & Meditation, Unstress and Sound Meditation programs to follow.

What Equipment Do You Need for BODi?

There is no specific list of equipment that you need for BODi workouts. This is because the live workouts will change day to day and workout programs are all different.

Most of the workouts use what you’d typically have on hand for working out at home. However, there are SO many programs and classes available on BODi that use no equipment.

Here’s what I would recommend to start working out from home:

  • Dumbbells: light, medium, and heavy based on your strength level. Remember these are an investment in your health and happiness.
  • Loop bands: Choose loop bands like these in varying levels of resistance. So many programs incorporate these now on different days.
  • A mat: I really love and use my Beachbody core comfort mat all the time (my dog loves it, too!) or you can also use a yoga mat.

Other home workout equipment that I’d recommend if you’re really looking to create a home workout space:

  • Foam Roller
  • Kettlebell
  • Stability Ball
  • Control Track
  • Exercise Step
  • Myx bike or other indoor exercise bike

That’s a pretty long list I have, and you definitely don’t need to have it all to get in a great at-home workout. It’s just to give you some ideas of what you might want to maximize your home gym.

Plus with BODi’s library of cycling classes, having your own MYX bike could be a perfect addition to get in some cardio that’s also very low impact.

Do you Need the Beachbody MYX Bike for BODi

MYX Bike is optional for BODi

You do not need to order the Beachbody MYX bike to use BODi. Although with BODi’s huge collection of cycling classes, it is definitely more fun to have one! I just ordered mine and will write another review once I’ve tried it out.

But if you’re looking to do the cycling workouts on the platform and have been wanting an indoor bike, then the MYX bike is a great option. I was skeptical at first, but after comparing what’s available online and the space we wanted to use it in, I feel like there wasn’t a better option. And I don’t want to buy special shoes to use it.

BODi has a complete library of cycling classes to choose from, plus live classes. Some of the live classes and recorded classes are with renowned trainer, Jennifer Jacobs. If that name sounds familiar, you probably recognize her as the voice of Peloton not too long ago.

Again, a MYX bike is not a requirement to do the BODi cycling workouts as long as you have a way to stream BODi from your bike, phone, tv, etc.

What About Background Music?

You have the option to listen to your own music or listen to the trainer’s playlist that plays in the background. The good news is that you can easily adjust the volume or shut off completely if it’s not your thing.

When Did BODi Launch?

BODi launched in September 2021, but it’s gotten so much better with their many improvements and additions, that it’s almost like a totally different platform. If you tried it before and didn’t love it, give it another try. I’m telling you, the change is huge, and you will love it!

How Much Does a BODi Membership Cost?

There are a few options when it comes to subscribing to BODi. One thing to be aware of is that Beachbody On Demand no longer exists. Beachbody On Demand has been integrated into BODi (you’ll see it when you go the Programs header at the top of the BODi screen), so it’s easier than ever to work out from home.

Below is the BODi pricing information:

How to Order BODi

Ready to try it out?! Here’s the link to ordering BODi. If you already have a BOD account, you can use the drop down on the linked to page to select your membership plan to upgrade your current membership.

Beachbody is also offering a “Day Pass” of BODi which allows you full access of the live workouts and on demand workouts for 24 hours once activated.

Here is the link to the Bodi Day Pass ordering page as it’s a different page than the other memberships options.

Bodi Day Pass Free Day Promotion

Sometimes BODi offers a free day pass promotion. Right now, there is none available. But as they come up, I’ll keep this post updated.

Conclusion

Beachbody is always evolving and innovating. And with the launch of BODi, Beachbody will keep its place as one of the leaders in home fitness. I know being able to offer live classes has been something that the community has always wanted, and they finally made it happen! Along with some very cool extras.

While most classes will be available in English audio, some classes will have French and Spanish audio. All classes will have English, Spanish and French subtitles available. And compared to other online streaming live workout sites, this is the most affordable for what you’re getting.

  1. Bethany do you know if during the cycling classes, do they plan to shout out the cadence and resistance numbers? This is something that Peloton does which helps if you don’t have a compatible bike that is linked in. This is something that I haven’t seen on the few iFit and Nike+ classes that I took over the past few months. Thanks
