PiYo Workout Review With 60-Day Result Photos

I just completed the PiYo workout program from Beachbody by Chalene Johnson. This 60 day at-home workout is low impact to moderate/high intensity program that is not Yoga nor is it Pilates. Read my complete PiYo review below to learn what makes this program so unique and see my results.

Why I Chose to do Beachbody PiYo

beachbody piyo from chalene johnson workout review
The sliders come with the PiYO deluxe package.

I’d been suffering from intermittent back pain after falling on a slippery deck a couple years back. Sometimes the pain was debilitating. It seriously hurt like something you would not believe. Maybe it was from wearing high heels every day, but over the past six months, the pain worsened and became more frequent in nature. I decided to see the doctor.

After results from my MRI came back, I learned that crashing to the slippery deck had damaged my lower spine, including an annular tear, which is the protective sheath that covers the vertebrae. Not being able to exercise comfortably and having gained back a lot of the weight I’d lost with the Brazil butt Lift workout program, I was very interested when I saw a program being released from Beachbody that combined Pilates with Yoga. The program looked like I might actually be able to do: PiYo by Chalene Johnson.

It turns out it was an excellent decision. In the beginning, there were moves that bothered me. I’d just do the modified version of those moves. As my strength increased with each week, I felt these moves becoming easier until I was performing every workout at full capacity. Today, my back is feeling better than ever, and the pain I felt in the beginning when I’d have to modify is gone. In fact after visiting the physical therapist, they said my core was strong and to just continue doing what I’m doing.

PiYo Overview: Define Yourself with Low Impact Exercise

Beachbody programs like P90X and Insanity are high intensity, high impact workout programs. They can put a lot of stress on your joints and muscles, which can cause a lot of soft tissue injuries when people push themselves too hard too soon.

PiYo is different. The eight-week long, complete at-home workout program was designed by Chalene Johnson for Beachbody to totally transform your body without any weights, jumps, or unnecessary strain on your body. The best part? The intensity level of the program can be altered based on your needs. For the beginner, or if you suffer from joint mobility issues, there is dedicated exercise modifier who performs all the moves at an easier, more manageable level. There is also someone doing more advanced moves if you’re more advanced. And if your fitness level is somewhere in between, you will likely jump back and forth.

What the PiYo Exercises are Like

PiYo is also designed to increase flexibility, stability and strength. The program accomplishes this by utilizing a unique combination of Pilates and Yoga-based moves to produce long, lean and toned muscle all while keeping the pace quick enough to help you burn lots of calories.

PiYo is not about Yoga and then Pilates or doing a combination of Yoga and Pilates. PiYo incorporates the fluid moves of Pilates with Yoga-based poses constantly staying in motion. This helps you get the muscle-defining moves of Pilates with the flexibility of Yoga – WITHOUT USING ANY WEIGHTS!!! PiYo will give you hardcore results without the strain of some other at-home workout programs.

Meet Chalene Johnson: PiYo Trainer Extraordinaire

Chalene Johnson is a best-selling author, health and fitness expert, athletic clothing designer. Oh and, did I mention she is also the mother of two?! She is a high-energy personality who turned her love of health and fitness into a career. I’ve had the privilege of meeting Chalene a couple times and she is just as upbeat and animated in person as she is in the PiYo workout, which is something I  happen to like when I’m grunting my way through a workout. She is also tough and encouraging, pushing you to your limits when you need it.

It’s important to just listen to her and trust her knowledge about how do the exercises and with what intensity.

A Little About the PiYo Diet

The PiYo diet plan is one of the best out there, because it focuses on whole food plant based nutrition. It is close to the popular 21 Day Fix eating plan, although unlike the 21 Day Fix, you measure food the old-fashioned way (with serving sizes.) The PiYo diet allows you to enjoy certain amounts of each food group depending on your calorie needs.

There are five categories of food in the PiYo nutrition plan. Depending upon your calorie needs, you get different amount of servings per group:

  • Primary Vegetables
  • Secondary Vegetables and Grains
  • Fresh Fruit
  • Lean Protein
  • Healthy Fats

This is designed to help you learn to appreciate the taste of real food over sugary or processed versions. For a more in-depth look at the PiYo meal plan, I’ve written a post on getting started with the PiYo diet.

And if you’re curious, yes, you can use the 21 Day Fix portion control diet with the PiYo program instead of following the PiYo diet plan. In fact, the diets are very similar aside from using the colored containers to measure your food vs serving sizes. The PiYo diet is a little higher in vegetables and grains than the 21 Day Fix diet.

Read more about the 21 Day Fix program here.

PiYo DVD Package vs PiYo Deluxe DVD Package

When Chalene Johnson and Beachbody put together the PiYo workout program together, they decided to create two packages. Version one,  the PiYo DVD Package, is an eight workout package. The second version is a package that includes everything from the original, plus two additional workouts. These extra workouts use the strength slides (which we will cover below.)

The infomercial I see on television is for the PiYo DVD Package. For the rest of the review, we will call this version PiYo Base.  The second version that includes the strength slide workouts will be called PiYo Strength or PiYo Deluxe.

What the heck is a PiYo strength slide?

The strength sliders used in the PiYo Strength workouts are best explained as plastic discs you use to increase the intensity of the PiYo workout moves. You use them either by placing a foot or hand on the disc. They allow you to move your body in ways it’s never been worked before while providing you with proper form and an increased difficulty of keeping your core stable.

The strength slides can be used on carpet or on hardwood flooring. If you are using them on carpet, you do not use the fabric cover that comes with a set. If you’re using them on hardwood flooring, you need to use the fabric cover to protect your floors. The sliders do come with the PiYo Deluxe package or can be purchased separately.

tip: Instead of the sliders, you can use paper plates on carpet or use a face cloth on hardwood. These won’t work quite as well as the sliders, but they will work in a pinch.

piyo workout equipment

If you decide the PiYo Deluxe workouts are for you, here are a couple tips:

  1. Go slow and stay in control at all times. The sliders will help you work on stability by making you unstable.
  2. Do not overstretch. The sliders allow for a greater range of motion on many of the move, be careful not to go too far and pull anything.

PiYo Workouts

There are eight workouts that come with the basic PiYo package:

  1. Align: The Fundamentals. Breaks down the moves in slow motion, so you can perform them in proper form during the regular workouts. You can repeat this workout as many times as you need to or refer back to when needed.
  2. Define Upper Body: Lots of push up variations to start cutting away at your upper body, defining your arms triceps, and shoulders.
  3. Define Lower Body: Start sculpting the legs with this workout from your glutes to your calves.
  4. Sweat: A more traditional PiYo workout that utilizes flowing yoga-based positions and resistance exercises to provide an effective cardio/strength workout.
  5. Core: This workout chisels away at your mid-section to get you a strong core, which can help lower back problems.
  6. Strength Intervals: One of my favorites! This slightly shorter, fast-paced, calorie crushing workout has you switching from strength to cardio and back, it really gets the heart rate up while being low impact.
  7. Drench: This tough endurance workout is all about calorie burn and works every muscle in your body. Prepare to get drenched for real. :)
  8. Sculpt: Various tempos keeps your muscle under tension for various periods of time to provide you with a muscle-defining workout that totally transforms your body.

There are two PiYo Strength Deluxe workouts that use the strength slides.

  1. Full Body Blast: This is a full body workout that is short, but super intense and really gets the heart pounding.  Similar to the strength intervals workout that we talked about above with greater intensity.
  2. Strong Legs: The strength slides really add an extra layer of intensity with workouts. The addition of the sliders allows you to control the moves better and go deeper into a lot of the holds, which really ups the intensity. The first time I did this workout, my legs were a completely different type of sore than they’ve ever been.

PiYo Workout Schedules Explained

There are two 60-day workout schedules included with PiYo. Depending on what package you decide to try, there is a slightly different schedule to follow:

  • Basic PiYo Schedule: Follow this if you choose the PiYo DVD Package. This is the pink side of the calendar.
  • PiYo Strength Schedule: Follow this is you choose the PiYo Deluxe DVD Package.  This is the blue side of the calendar.
piyo base workout schedule is in pink piyo deluxe workout schedule is in blue

I created the image above to show people how the PiYo workout schedule is arranged. The pink calendar is what you follow if you do the PiYo Base workouts. The blue schedule is the strength PiYo schedule that includes the full body blast and strong legs slider workouts. (FYI, the actual program comes with a much better quality workout calendar.)

The first three weeks of the PiYo schedule are designed to get your body in shape for the more advanced workouts to come in the last five weeks of the program. You could always repeat the first three weeks of the program if you need to. On the other hand, if you feel the PiYo workouts are too easy, you can always skip to the end of week three to increase the intensity.

The PiYo Cons

There was only one issue I had with PiYo, and it’s that there is a limit to how many bodyweight exercises there actually are that will burn fat and sculpt muscle. Be prepared to do the same moves repeatedly throughout the varying DVDs for the two months. Sure, Chalene changes it up and switches the workout sequencing to prevent it from becoming boring, but it is the same strength-based moves. The other minor flaw is the background music. There was just something about it I didn’t love. Luckily, that’s an easy fix as you can just turn down or turn off the background music.

Despite these minor flaws, I have never seen all the muscles in my body like I did after completing this workout program – even more so than when I did the BBL workout. PiYo really does work.

If you’re looking to define yourself and want something that’s not dance-based or hard on your joints and uses your own bodyweight, then PiYo could be the right workout for you.

My 60-Day PiYo Before and After Results

piyo workout resullts
What impressed me most with the results of the PiYo program was in the strength and muscle definition that it created in my core area.

After wondering if I would really get results from just doing yoga poses, push-ups, down dogs and body resistance exercises, I am very pleased to reveal my PiYo results. I lost a total of 15.5″ (including calves and ankles) and 13.2 lbs. More importantly, I can now easily do 15 push-ups in a row (before PiYo, I could barely do one!) I’m not just long and lean, I am more defined and stronger than ever. I can even see the different muscles in my legs when I flex and have lost inches off my calves and ankles…I love it!

My results are very real. I only did the program for the eight weeks while following the eating plan almost to a tee (I like to live a little, too!) This is not something where I did the workout twice through. And it’s not just about looking better, I feel way better too.

2023 and Beyond Ordering Beachbody’s PiYo Update

stream piyo beachbody workout

Since the initial release of the PiYo program, Beachbody has launched online streaming of its ever-growing library of workout programs. This feature is called Beachbody On Demand. It is an online membership that allows you to access every workout that used to come with a program package only now in digital format.

However, since PiYo was released before online streaming of Beachbody workouts became available you can still order the DVD packages above.

If you want to go digital only or a mix of digital and the DVD there are a couple more options for you.

The PiYo DVD Shakeology Total Solution Pack with BOD Trial

This is yet another option you can choose from when ordering your PiYo workout. It includes the full workout program along with the Shakeology meal replacement shake on Home Direct shipping. Choose from many Shakeology flavors including Café Latte, Chocolate, Strawberry, or Vanilla or two Vegan options: Tropical Strawberry or Chocolate Vegan and more flavor options are now available.

piyo challenge pack

Those who purchase the packs seem to be more driven to stick with it the most. The downside of the PiYo Total Solution Pack is that it only includes the PiYo Base kit and is just a 30-day trial of Beachbody On Demand. This means you would need to order the strength slides separately.

PiYo with BODi Streaming Workouts

If you prefer to go digital only(materials and workout videos) which includes all Beachbody workout programs there is the basic BODi membership that you can get billed quarterly, 6-month or annually. Equipment can still be ordered separately.

Please leave a comment if you have any questions about the PiYo program or want to share your own thoughts.

  1. Hi! I had scoliosis surgery in my low back on May, 2013. Since then I have gained 20 pounds and feel terrible about it. I need to start an exercise program and someone recommended PiYo. Do you think it is appropriate for someone with movements limitations, poor flexibility and who can not lift more than 5 pounds (by rec of my doctor)??

    1. Hi MJ, The PiYO workout lengths are as follows.
Align: the Fundamentals – 40 minutes
Define: Upper Body – 25 minutes
Define: Lower Body – 20 minutes
      Sweat – 35 minutes
      Core – 30 minutes
      Strength Intervals – 25 minutes
      Drench – 45 minutes
      Sculpt – 30 minutes
      Buns – 25 minutes
Hardcore on the Floor – 30 minutes
Full Body Blast – 30 minutes
      Strong Legs – 30 minutes

      1. Where do you get Hardcore on the Floor, Full Body Blast and Strong Legs. I can’t find them on the Beach Body website

      2. HI Karen, That would be the deluxe upgrade and bonus workout, to get those alone you could click through this link and then click on where it says to view all other PiYo options click here and then scroll down to select the upgrade package.

  2. Hey Bethany!! You look amazing and I need your help!! My life has kinda hit a slow point I moved to a city so I do alot more driving and alot less walking, I also started a desk job. Over the last year I have gained almost 60lbs. I have never in my life worked out I was always slim because I walked every where and was at a very active job. Is PIYO something that could help me lose that weight and maybe some extra in my thighs? Given that I have never worked out is this a good program for someone that is a beginner? I eat healthy and the only thing I drink besides water is orange juice and coffee is the PIYO diet something you think is easy to follow? Please let me know!!

    1. Hi Danielle, Yes all the PiYo workouts have a modifier doing less intense verison of the exercise moves for beginner’s to follow or when you need to lower your workout intensity. I love the PiYo diet, it is focused on whole foods. I think it is an easy one to follow because you calculate your calorie need, then you get blocks of foods to fill in. Under the PiYo category on this site there are a few posts that detailt the PiYo diet more. -Bethany

  3. You look great. I’m doing ChaLean Extreme, week 1 of the Lean Phase. I love Chalean and the program but I was looking to lose inches on my thighs but instead my thighs are getting a tad bigger. I don’t need to lose weight and was wondering if PiYo would shrink my legs.

    1. Hi Laurie, Did you take measurements? Sometimes it may look as if you are getting begger when in fact your losing, you might be just seeing more muscle instead. Spot reducing is hard, sometimes our genetics just don’t allow it. -Bethany

      1. Hi! So I am very happy to have ran across this blog. I am almost finished with ChaLean X and I love Chalene. She’s amazing!!! My body has totally transformed, but yes, it is my saddlebags that I have the hardest time with. But I want to start Piyo and I’m not afraid to work hard. I just want to make sure I pick the right program for what I need. Back love handles, bottom of stomach and yes, those pesky saddlebags. What is your thoughts on the saddlebag area and Piyo because you look amazing! Thanks

      2. Hi Gloria, Thanks, Eating clean, working out, and staying consistent over a long enough period of time will get you the results. That area is common problem area for woman, but you can beat it, just got stick with it. Bethany

  4. Hi, I’m just curious to know as this is an 8-week program, what would come after that? It would seem redundant to redo the program as it’s supposed to yield a sculpted, more powerful body. Does the program offer any sort of follow-up or suggestions on maintaining your body?

I want to know because I know if I finish the program, I’ll stop any sort of physical activity and let the muscles mush out again. I’ve done that too many times with some simple muscle-toning programs, unfortunately.

    1. Hi Gwen, I’m not sure if the program specifically has suggestions, but there are several options after completing the program. You could take a week break and repeat the schedule as is again. You could lighten the program workout schedule to maintain results, like do a PiYo workout three times a week. I have been maintaining my results with two PiYo workouts a week and some added strength training to change it up. I have done a lot of the at home workout programs and usually end up filing them away myself, but the PiYo workouts have been different, I still enjoy them. Plus, I think PiYo gets you fit in a different way than other program, sure you lose weight, but my increase in flexibilty and functional strength is what has really made me happy with the program. -Bethany

  5. You looks amazing!
I have pretty much made up my mind on getting this program as soon as I get paid! But my grandmother wants to try PiYo with me. She has had back surgery and has rods going almost up her entire spine. She has Osteoporosis (a big factor when we broke her back) and losing weight will really help release the strain on her back. Would this program be okay for her or could it possible be to intense for her?

    1. Hi Christen, Yes, likely it would be to difficult. Another at home program to consider is Tai Cheng. Just be sure to consult with her doctor before beginning. -Bethany

  6. Hi Bethany,
I am currently on the fence about ordering Piyo….I have been over weight for a coupme of years and want to change…i stumbled onto your page about Piyo…your results look fantastic! !! have tired Insanity but only lasted about 2 weeks until I was tired and sore and knee started to act up …and wanted to make sure that this low impact workout would be the fit…

I also was wondering cause i do want to lose a considerable amount of weight…but don’t want to have to starve myself by doing that…

    1. Hi Korreena, think you lasted longer with Insanity than I did. And, yes PiYo is low impact, nothing like the Insanity workouts, it should not hurt your knees, but always be careful. The PiYo diet is a whole foods diet, you calculate your caloire need and reduce your claoires as you lose weihgt, this way you will not be starving and you’ll lose weight gradually and be able to keep it off. I was never hungry on the diet and it is easy to customize. -Bethany

  7. Did you also do the Shakeology with this or did you just watch your diet and work out? I am really wanting to try this but very unsure about the shakeology.

    1. Hi Brandi, I had the shake on weekday mornings and followed the PiYo diet that comes with the program(a cheat here and there). The shake for me is convenient, fills in any nutritional gaps my diet does not provide and I like that is is made from whole foods, not containing anything man made or chemicals. -Bethany

  8. Hi Bethany. Great results! I ordered Piyo this morning and cannot wait to start!! I was wondering if you incorporated any other cardio while on the program? I would like to lose about 25 pounds and I don’t know if this program will be enough. What do you suggest?

    1. Hi Courtney, I dod not do any other cardio. My boyfrined did the program with me and lost about twenty five pounds and did not do any extra cardio either. We both did follow the diet very closely which I’m sure helped with the weight loss. I do not think you need extra cardio, just watch what you eat and give the workouts your all and you should be all set! -Bethany

      1. This is exactly what I wanted to know. I decided to go ahead and start and complete the program being on the fence for several months if it’s going to give me the intensity that I crave- and the results I’m looking for, which is a stronger core and more toning. I’m a T25 graduate and got killer results with the program, so I want to keep that going. I’m glad that I stumbled across your blog. :)

  9. Fist off, you look great!
I have been looking around at a few different workout DVD’s and came across Piyo. I love Pilates and Yoga so I thought that this would be perfect for me. I just had a baby on September 9th so I am looking to get back my toned abdomen again as well as firm up my butt, thighs, and legs. Is Piyo a good workout for these things?

Pre-pregnancy I was a size 2 and since having my baby I’m 15lbs away from my pre-pregnancy weight & currently I am a size 4/6 depending on the brand. I would love to get back down to my weight pre-pregnancy as well as tone up everything. Would you recommend this DVD over one like T25 or BBL? I’m having a hard time deciding which DVD would work well for me.
    Thank you!

    1. Hi Ashley! Thanks for your kind words. Now, congratulations on your new baby, and more congratulations for only gaining 15lbs :) That is something to be proud of. As for PiYo, there is no doubt in my mind you can get your pre-pregnancy body back with it and then some. For me, it firmed me up exactly where I needed it and slimmed me down to look toned and fit. I also think PiYo is less stressful on your body than T25 and more ab-focused than BBL. You will get a killer body with any of the three programs, but PiYo combines the perfect amount of athletic with the perfect amounts of Pilates and Yoga. It’s different than either, but will get you the long, lean look and a super toned tummy. I hope this helps, but please let me know if there’s anything else I can help you with. Good luck!

  10. Thank you for your review which is very helpful and your before and after pictures are great! I have sort of a weird question. I previously purchased T25 and unfortunately received complaints from the tenant below me because of the moves. I live in a 2nd floor condo so I was hoping this workout would make less noise because they advertise it’s low impact. I am hoping there is not a lot of jumping or running that would be pounding on my floor and her ceiling. Otherwise I’m pretty sure I will be purchasing this workout. It sounds like what I’m looking for. Thank you.

    1. Hi Teri, sorry your comment made me laugh. You should be okay with PiYo it is low impact, especially comared to T25. There are a couple sets of burpees in the Drench and the Sweat workouts, but that is all that I can think of that might be questionable. Just try to be light on your feet and you should be okay or follow the modifier on the moves that might cause issues. -Bethany

  11. I need to lose about 30 lbs and tone EVERYWHERE! I’m trying to decide between BBL and PIYO. It’s been a while since I worked out, and historically I prefer cardio kickboxing types of workouts. I’m mostly concerned with my lower body as my butt is sliding down the back of my legs and my calves are so fat that I can’t wear any of my winter boots. Any thoughts on what will work better and faster for me?

    1. Hi Terrie, I can relate to the winter boots thing for sure. Zappos.com has a nice selction of wide calf boots. Anyways, if you like kickboxing workouts, BBL you are not going to like, as one of the workout is danced based and so is the high and tight workout to a point. The static moves in PiYo are great for toning the lower half and it has enough cardio to still promote weight loss. And, it is great for getting back into working out as the first couple weeks are lower in intensity, which is hard to find in other programs. I would lean towards PiYo if I had to choose betweeen the two. Bethany

  12. Hi Bethany,
I am so impressed with your results. You look great! Do you think you will create a PiYo hybrid? I love BBL I’m wondering how they can or if they should be combined? Or would something like T25 be better? I tend to get bored.

    1. HI Tresha, I was working on a PiYo/BBL hybrid, but it was a little to difficult, so I am going to have to rethink it. T25 might be a better option, you just don’t want to overwork the same muscle groups on back to back days. Bethany

  13. Hey Bethany!
Your pictures look great! I was wondering if PiYo would be good for me. I have never done any workout videos before but have always wanted to try one. The big name workouts like P90x and Insanity really intimidate me and seem just really long and brutal. Right now I am looking to lose about 20 pounds or at least get toned. One of the biggest things that bothers me right now is my arms, I know you have said that you saw definition in your legs but does it work for the arms too? My other problem areas are my hips, (I have a rather big butt that makes my hips look huge) thighs, and stomach. Also looking at the last comment, will I feel like I am getting a workout? I tend to like workouts where I feel like I am getting results. Will PiYo be a good fit for me? Thank you so much!

    1. Hi Lottie, PiYo sounds like it would be perfect for you and you goals. P90X and Insanity while great programs are high impact and not the best choice for beginner’s and those who have not worked out in a while.

Gigi’s comment is about the first couple of weeks of the program and two of the workouts in particular. The Upper Boday and Lower Body workouts are each about twenty minutes long, they are only used in the first couple of weeks. These two workouts are meant to get your body ready for the more strenous workouts to come, so that you do not burn out. Optionally, if you do feel like you are not getting enough of a workout, you could simply do the Upper and Lower body workouts back to back. PiYo is a hellava workout just to clarify! Bethany

  14. Your results are awesome. I started with insanity but by week 6 my legs just couldn’t take all the plyo but my cardio endurance improved. I moved on to chalean extreme and fell in love with her. I’ve always preferred a more strength training based program to cardio but wanted to switch it up. I just finished piyo and am alternating that with clx now. My results could have been much better if I ate better ( my own fault ) I never told my boyfriend I had started working out but when he told me my legs were looking really good it felt great to know I had made progress. I’m writing this to anyone on the fence about piyo..the first couple of weeks the workouts seem kind of easy but it does get more intense and the more you do it you can increase your range of motion and intensity which leads to greater results.

  15. Hi Bethany,

Your results are amazing! I’m commenting as I was wondering whether you could give me some advice. I do have some weight to loose and is PiYO the right way to go?
In the exercises you use your own weight, and could that not affect my body in a negative way if I certainty want to lose 40 pounds to have a healthy weight again for my length and age.
Please let me know what you think.
Oh and next to that, I live in the Netherlands, do you happen to know a website that also sends this program to Europe? I checked the Beachbody website and they don’t do so.. :(
Hope to hear from you soon!
    Kind regards,
    Susan

  16. Hi, I bought the PIYO workout but have been hesistant to use it as I am currently 255 pounds and I was worried I would not be able to keep up with it. I tried doing Focus T25 and even with the modifier, my recurring knee issue is starting to rear its ugly head again so I wanted to give it a break and try something with even a lower impact. Do you think this may be something that could work for me? Or at least to start with. Thank you. You look fantastic by the way. Didn’t know you could get such definition and muscles from this workout.

    1. Hi SK, PiYo is the lowest impact Beachbody program I have tried by far. In fact, now thinkning about it I’m amazed at how great of workout PiYo is with virtually no high or even moderate impact moves. There are some burpes in a couple of the videos, but the modifier shows a low impact version. And, yes I think it sounds like it will be a perfect place for you to start. Often once losing weight people find that their knee pain disapates significantly or goes away all together. Thanks Bethany

  17. Hi Bethany! I am starting PiYo today but I want to know if it is good for legs? I don’t have a lot of weight to lose, I was looking to lose around 6 inches from my waist and 5 inches from my thighs. I know this program will help with my core but will it help slim my thighs too?

    1. Hi Jamila, Yes, PiYo will get your thighs toned. Lots of squats and lunge varitations hit the thighs from different directions. Let us know how it goes. -Bethany

  18. Awesome results! I’ve been on the fence about purchasing this program because a lot of the beachbody programs have simply been too intense on my elbows. I believe I could have completed RevAbs had I not already of had an active injury with the elbows trying to heal.

As of late, I’ve been in the gym about 2-3 days each week doing heavier weights, and I can tell after a couple months that I’m noticing some small aches after each session, nothing to cry about though. So I’ve been in search of a good low impact program that would still hopefully give results in muscularity and the flexibility is just a plus.
I don’t have weight that I’m trying to lose since I’m a slender guy naturally, if anything I would like to get a little bit bigger, but I’m just hoping to get great results from it in comparison to Sting and Adam Levine who are popular for their practice of yoga.

After reading this review, I’ve pretty much made up my mind.

Thank you for your clear review and congratulations on your success with the program! You look great!

    1. I have had elbow issues with P90x3. I broke my elbow a little under a year ago and it just isn’t up for that intensity yet. But I feel like PiYo actually helps with my elbow pain.

  19. Wow! Congratulations on such great results! You look great.
I’ve been considering PIYO but I’m not sure if it’s right for me. Did you have to add any cardio or any other workouts over the 8 weeks? I’ve done countless rounds of BBL (loved it) and had good results. I finished one round of Insanity and I really can’t see torturing myself like that again. I’ve done Turbofire a few times and have seen good results, but the bands are awkward and I always wind up skipping those. About 8 weeks in I get really bored and I actually feel like the cardio workouts get harder to make it through so I never complete the full 90. But I really Love Chalene’s training style. I’ve done a few rounds of 21 Day Fix. The work outs are good but I only get results when I double up and while I don’t dislike Autumn I don’t love her either – she seems a little too rehearsed. I’ve just finished 8 weeks of P90x. I feel great after the workouts but theya re just TOO long. I am starting to see defination but my jeans are getting tighter AND I’ve gained weight so I’m looking to do something else. I’ve been trying to decide between PIYO, PUMP or X3. I only have about 5-10 to lose, but my love handles are a problem spot. Is PIYO a good work out for that particular area or do you think I’m better off with a different workout?

    1. Hi Andrea – thank you so much for your kind words. I feel really wonderful too!

PiYo is really designed to target your core, which will help with those pesky lovehandles. With what you’re aiming to lose, there is no doubt in my mind PiYo can get you the toned middle you’re looking for. And, you can easily make the moves harder or easier by following the different modifications. The workout challenges your body in different ways than other workout programs do, which is also what is going to change your body. Plus, the diet plan is also super easy to follow. PiYo really is a super effective workout that will leave you nothing but defined from head to toe. Good luck! I hope this helps, but please let me know if you have any other questions. :)

      1. Congratulations on your weight loss! I completely agree this program is amazing! I am one of the lucky few that get to attend live PuYo classes as my instructor is the modifier in the PiYo video, Michele! I do three classes a week and occasionally will do a cardio / weight class. I have never been in better shape in my life! I tried on a dress that I have no business being able to wear at my age… BUT there were no lumpss, and no bumps!! ( I didn’t buy it, but may still go back after it…)

    2. Hi Andrea, after reading your comments and the types of workouts you are accustomed to, I can see you are not afraid to put in the work necessary. Having done p90x3 which I love, and then PiYo over the holidays, here are my surprising findings. I was already in shape, just wanted to try something different so went to PIYo. I noticed my clothes were getting loose (again, not my goal, as I was already in shape) and found that I lost an inch from my hips! I went back to p90x3 to punish myself for all then holiday treats lol and found that not only did I NOT lose any strength (was using 12, 15 and 20 lb Dumbbells before PiYo) but – did not have to drop down my weights – gained a few push-ups , and definitely flexibility. So now I am doing them both on alternate days as a hybrid. Bottom line – it is the real deal. Bonus – cannot tell you how many people have commented on my booty!
