Our INSANITY MAX:30 After Results

As you may or not know, my boyfriend and I decided to try out INSANITY MAX:30 to be able to talk about the workouts to others who might be interested in the program.

Well…it turns out we ended up loving the workouts and the quick results we were getting so much that we decided to stick with it for the full 60-day program.

grandfloridian
I opted for this delectable dessert at the Grand Floridian’s Garden View Tea Room. This is not on the MAX:30 diet, but you have to live a little.

Although we did finish the program, it should be noted that there was about a three-week break. First, was our trip to Disney World where we indulged in such goodies as the ones to the right, then came the most miserable respiratory cold I’d had in years. This sidetracked our workout efforts for exactly three weeks after we’d already completed five weeks of the program.

Even with the short break, after completing Beachbody’s latest and shall I say one of the best workout programs to date, I am excited to share our INSANITY MAX:30 results!

INSANITY MAX:30 – Pushing Your Body to Its Limits

I was hesitant at first, since I normally am not one who loves hardcore cardio or rapid, heavy breathing – burpees, genie tuck jumps, followed by push-ups in quick succession…eh, that’s normally not my style. I enjoy workouts that get the blood flowing, but not ones that push you to your limits…usually.

The original INSANITY was too much for me, but the idea of challenging yourself to beat your previous time piqued my interest. Plus, the addition of the modifier made it so I could follow along no matter how I was feeling. That is one of the major upgrades to MAX:30 over the original INSANITY.

My MAX OUT Times Improved Quickly

max-out-times
Our MAX OUT times improved steadily from workout to workout. We saw a 1-3 minute improvement on most workouts by week.

I’m not going to go into too much detail here, but I will tell you that I maxed out at 2:56 the very first time I did MAX:30 Cardio Challenge. I guess I was more out of shape cardiovascularly than I’d previously thought, since I didn’t even make it through the warm-up portion!

But I didn’t get discouraged and just kept pushing to go a little bit longer every time I did the workouts. Just look at my Max Out sheet to see how quickly my Max Out times improved. And the Cardio Challenge Fit Test? We both crushed it on the final day and finished it without MAXING OUT!

Cardio Challenge is the fit test for MAX:30 and the way in which you measure your results. I would say I got an A+ on that one, since improving my cardiovascular endurance was my first goal.

My Result Photos and Measurements

I’m not going to candy coat this, since my measurements and weight  loss weren’t really that significant. In fact, they were negligible since I wasn’t heavy to begin with. Luckily, there were more important gains that are evident when looking at my befores and afters (why you should ALWAYS take photos!) like lean muscle mass, muscle definition, and noticeable fat loss.

I still wonder how we would’ve looked had we not gone to Florida for 10 days and then took another week and a half off, because I was very sick, but I think our results are pretty good – even with everything that happened.Insanity Max30 Results Bethany Lyn

Dan’s INSANITY MAX:30 Results

Here’s another example of what kind of weight loss results INSANITY MAX:30 has to offer. Let’s even take note that you can see his obliques! I was able to confiscate an after photo of him (not my ideal, but yay nonetheless!), which I think speak for themselves:dans-before-after-photos

What Type of Results Can You Expect?

Here’s just a short list of what kind of INSANITY MAX:30 results to expect:

  • Weight loss
  • Improved cardiovascular endurance
  • Better athletic performance
  • Lean muscle gains everywhere even those areas you didn’t know you were working
  • Increased strength
  • Abs of steel

If you have a lot of weight to lose, expect rapid, significant weight loss in the 60 days. If you’re somewhere in-between, expect weight loss and inches lost, but do expect to counteract that some with muscle gain. And if you’re just skinny fat, expect to have a very athletic looking body at the end.

As you can see, I clearly lost a lot of fat, but I also look very athletic now. More importantly, I can now do things I once couldn’t do because of the cardiovascular and strength gains like double digit push-ups (no kness needed!)…something I could never do.

Dan even said, “Forget the snow blower. I’m shoveling my way out of here.” But let’s remember that this was one of the snowiest winters in New England ever.  That’s how MAX:30 affects you though. You will notice an improvement in your day-to-day activities as you progress through the program.

What MAX:30 Package We Followed

There are a few options to choose when you’re ordering INSANITY MAX:30. There is the base kit, deluxe, and challenge pack. There are also options to order pieces individually.

I opted for the base INSANITY MAX:30 DVD Package, and then a week later ordered the Ab Maximizer DVDs set, which includes the Max Out 15, Max Out Abs, and 360 degree Abs workouts, plus the Shaun T’s 7-Day Ab Maximizer diet.

I chose this option because we are already on Shakeology HD (which we did drink daily), I already had the containers from the 21 Day Fix, and I already owned a yoga mat.

We did follow the Ab Maximizer diet for another week after the program, so if you really want to get shredded and photoshoot ready, then that’s definitely the way to go. It really leans you out, plus the ab workouts are a nice addition to any workout.

UPDATE – 14 Day Trial to Stream Insanity MAX:30 Workouts

Beachbody On Demand now allows streaming of all Beachbody workout programs. The best part is you can try out the service before committing to a membership with 14-day with a no charge trial.  It is a good way to see if the program is right for you, but be sure to write down your max out times. This way you can see how fast you’ll make cardiovascular improvements.

You Need to Be a Little Careful Warming-Up

A little extra dynamic stretching prior to your workouts and/or a little foam rolling can go a long way. The warm-ups feel more like part of the workouts, so if you are one who needs to warm up more, by all means stretch it out and jog in place for a minute or two beforehand.

My knees and hips were getting a little sore as each week progressed, then I began foam rolling my hip flexors and IT band after the workouts. This cleared up my aches.

And if you’re not that in shape, no worries! Just follow the modifier who, by the way, is not that easy. You can still get a great workout even with the lower impact, less intense moves. You can just go a little bit slower than her to do the workout at your own pace. And make sure to choose the modifier track when you first put the workout in.

  1. What would you recommend for thighs and legs. I want to lose my thigh fat and it’s been hard for me. Do you have any channels I could try or any workouts?

    Thanks.

    1. Hi Lana. There are specific programs designed aimed at your legs like bbl, 80 day obsession. But you have to remember that fat loss is going to be an overall body thing too.

  2. Awesome results you got there, and I love your site overall!

I have a question, maybe you can help me: I started IM30 today. I maxed out after 2:38 and had to quit at around minute 11. I just couldn’t do any more. (I am still pretty heavy with 190 lbs on a 5’6” frame and started working out again a month ago.)
Now I feel like I didn’t do enough, because after a shower and an hour-long break I feel like I could start over again. Should I? Or is it better to rest and try to last longer the next time?

    1. Hi Sandra, Awesome job, MAX:30 is a great, crazy difficult program, stick with it and you’ll get amazing results. I would take the rest of the day off and get back at it tomorrow. Recovering from your workouts is just as important as the workouts themselves. Like you said, just try and go a little longer next time, this is how we improve/progress and get stronger over time. Bethany

  3. Hi. Just stumbled upon your site/results. I love Max 30, although I will admit that the past 2-3 months I haven’t been following a nutrition plan per se. I am impressed by your results – I see that this was in 2015 – I was wondering, have you been able to maintain this level of definition?

    1. Hi Sherry, It is a great program! I followed the diet pretty closely with a 1-2 cheat meals a week to keep me sane. I had my first baby at the end of 2016 so no I don’t have that definition(yet). :)

  4. hello,
I just completed insanity max 30 and had pretty great weight loss…..I was just wondering what should I do now to remain fit

  5. Hi Bethany,

I just stumbled on your site and am so pleased I did. I just ordered Insanity Max 30 and am very inspired by your results. I have ordered the base package but was considering ordering the ab maximizer set too. How did you incorporate these into your workouts? How often did you do them in addition to the regular workouts? Thanks!

    1. Hi Katie, I actually only ordered the base kit to begin with also and then I upgraded once I get started with the program because I loved the workouts so much. Basically, you add in one of the ab maximizer workouts in every other day after your normal workout. When you get your kit there is the base workout schedule on one side of the workout calendar and on the other side is the schedule that includes the ab workouts.

  6. Hi Bethany! I am purchasing the max 30 this week. I have done insanity for one year, now t25 for a year and a half mainly because I did not have 45-60 minutes a day for insanity. Now, with the max 30, I hope to have a bit more challenge. But, I was reading how you can combine max 30 with BBL. I have never tried or heard of BBL before. Would you recommend I do Max 30 for the 60 days and then I would need to purchase BBL and do your hybrid workouts with both? I am not overweight, I eat balanced, just want to keep toned and work on my but and legs a bit more to tone.

Bethany. I meant you have the BBL/T25 hybrid schedule which I wanted to try. Do you think you would do a max 30/BBL hybrid schedule or suggest that in any way? Just wondering how you felt about anything to add to the max 30 for help.

By the way, I am 52, and have no problem doing an insanity or T25 workout. No problem for me!! Hee Hee. Eating right and exercise is the key!!!!

    1. Hi Lynn, I don’t know about a BBL/MAX:30 hybrid, MAX:30 is a heck of a work out program and it could be very easy to over train an area if you were not careful with the program layout. You could do a round of MAX:30 and then a round of BBL, after MAX:30 I felt like my body needed a break from the intensity of the program. Bethany

  7. Your increase in muscle definition is insane! (groan) I’ve seen drastic before and afters for this program of people who had quite a bit of weight to lose, so it’s great to see such good results on someone who was already lean and didn’t need to lose weight. This is such a great example that the number on the scale is less important than body composition.

    1. Thanks! I wish I took my body fat percentages first, but the pictures are very telling to the difference.

  8. Wow your results are amazing! I weight 85kg and am 5ft7. i need to lose weight fast. Approximately how much can i expect to lose in 1 month if i also follow a strict diet?

    1. Hi John, Really hard to say how much weight you would lose. A good goal for fat loss each week is 1-2 pounds, MAX:30 seems to also build muscle for people too. It’s an effective program! Bethany

  9. Hi Bethany’ your results are amazing!!!! After having my second child I lost all the baby weight and when Christmas came along and went back to work I stopped working out. I feel mushy and don’t eat as much as before and scared I’ve put my body in starvation mode of being a busy working mom. I was conflating not between insanity max 30 or bbl. my problem is my lower body and I would be considered a pear. I just want to know what program gave you results and lean and something that can help me with reg eating lol thanks ! Melanie

    1. Hi Melanie, I got great results with both programs. If you want weight loss first, MAX:30 then BBL I think would give amazing results/ MAX:30 does have the better eating plan out of the also. Bethany

  10. How was your diet while doing the Max 30? Did you follow what he advises in the book? I have the package but not the AB Max package, I do it a couple times a week and lift in the gym but am not see the results I want. My diet could probably improve a lot as well. I drink about twice a week, and eat right about 75-85% of the time. :(

    1. Hi Sarah, My diet was pretty spot on. I ate clean whole foods, no processed foods(maybe 1-2 cheats a week). The MAX:30 diet is one of the most in depth and if you are not happy with your progress, I would take another look at the diet. I followed the program only, no extra weights or gym workouts for me. Bethany

  11. Insanity Max 30 was crazy and I loved it. After 5 weeks I had lost 4 lbs and 6 3/4 inches overall and was feeling great. Unfortunately, just days after seeing those results I wasn’t focused doing one of the exercises and pulled muscles in my back that had me down for the count for a week and a half and now I’m scared to go back into it. I’m thinking I might start all over from the beginning and ease my way back into it.

    1. Hi Veronica, I agree with the starting from the beginning. Looking back that is what we should have done after the break. You will get just as good if not better results this time. Bethany

  12. O my god, amazing results! well done. week 4 t 25 finished today, 6kilo lost so far, 5 cm belly fat gone. no abs this week, hurt them too much Monday, sitting was a torture for two days, just as turning side in the bed. have a nice weekend!
