A sun-kissed look is always the perfect accessory for the season. Personally, I do not like to lay out in the sun for various reasons, including my grandmother dying from melanoma, and well…I just get bored. So, I like to look for others ways to get that healthy summer glow sans the sun’s harmful rays by testing out as many sunless tanners I can afford to get me a natural looking color all season long.

My Favorite Sunless Tanners
St. Tropez Self Tan Dark Bronzing Spray or Mousse 
The St. Tropez line of bronzing sprays and mousses are awesome, because they give the best, most natural color ever. Their formula actually works with your skin’s melanin to produce the tan color you would acquire naturally by laying out in the sun. This means I don’t get orangey – I get my natural, golden brown color.
The dark doesn’t look too bad on my fair-skin, but if you are very concerned, there is a lighter option. The spray has a 360° nozzle to easily get everywhere on your body without having to turn into a contortionist :) However, you can also use their mitt to easily apply the mousse without any streaks (because of the green color it goes on that washes off in the morning) without having to worry about your palm turning ugly. I used the mousse, and it looks fantastic.
Apply before bedtime and wake up with a sun-kissed look you’ll love. The only downside is it’s pricey, but totally worth it. If you’re very fair-skinned and sick of being left orange by sunless tanners, you need to give this one a try. It’s my fave, by far.

I like this one for my face, because well…it’s designed specifically for your face – and the fact you can pick it up right at Walmart or any drugstore is a major plus as well. It features a very subtle fragrance that eliminates the harsh smell most self-tanners have. This is something I truly appreciate when applying it directly to that area. The color is natural looking enough when you purchase the option to best suit your current skin color – otherwise, you get that faux tan kind of look. I used the fair to medium range, but there is also the medium to tan range.

Fake Bake 60-Minute Self Tanner 
In a super rush to get a golden glow, then this instant color self tanner is the one for you. It literally develops your tan in less than one hour, continuing to darken over time if left on. The major plus is that is has a “shows where it goes” color, so you know where you’ve put it and don’t develop an unnaturally dark tan with unwanted streaks without you knowing.
You simply watch what color you’ve achieved after an hour, and then wash it off when you finally get to the color you want to be. My advice: if you’re light skinned, aim at washing it off after one hour the first time and build up naturally as you would with a natural tan – don’t one day be Snow White, and the next look like a bronzed beauty.

Neutrogena Micro-mist Airbrush Sunless Tan
I like this one only, because it goes on easy and gives you a soft, completely natural looking glow. It is available in medium and deep, although I went with the deep for my lighter skin and didn’t end up unnaturally colored. I’ve read many reviews online that also say to use the deep no matter what color you are now. The spray is easy to use, although I would recommend wearing dark under garments and spraying outside if possible – otherwise, the smell and spray can be overwhelming. However, no risk of orange palms or uneven application…unless you completely miss a spot :)

Guerlain Terracotta Sunless Self-Tanning Balm 
Although this is expensive, it gives you a really great looking bronze radiance and glow…instantly! This is by far one of the fastest acting sunless tanners, so if you’re looking to have a more summer glow for dinner, no worries! Not too much for fair skinned gals, but the right amount of color for everyone. The oils in this lotion make all of your body feel super soft and sexy. Definitely a favorite for me – especially on my legs when I need a quick fix without having to worry about putting too much on and getting orange.
